Welcome to the first annual Bay Area Reggae Weekender. The music has deeper roots here than most people realize. The Wailers played the Matrix in 1973 and taped a session for KSAN in Sausalito the same week. KTIM in San Rafael put the first regularly scheduled reggae show on American commercial radio in 1974. Bill Graham was booking Marley into Oakland rooms before the rest of the country caught on, and the sound has lived here ever since: Golden Gate Park on Sunday afternoons, small halls in Berkeley, and of course at Lake Merritt whenever the Town gathers. This weekend it all comes together in one place. Bring your people, bring your appetite, and come ready to move.

Nina

Nina Cole, AKA Reggaedelic, is a longtime selector of 60s Jamaican rocksteady and early reggae. Drawn in by the 1990s L.A. traditional ska scene, she was also the drummer for The Cover-Ups and Tight Spot. A former resident at LA's Rocksteady Lounge, she holds a doctorate in cultural studies on music revival subcultures and has played records across Japan, Europe, and the US.

Corey

Corey Poluk, AKA Young Royal, is an Oakland-based selector specializing in original Jamaican rocksteady, early reggae, and soul.  He spins monthly at Bar 355 and Room 389 and is a co-founder of Oakland's Hotter Than Scorcher and San Francisco's Tip Top Reggae Club. Beyond DJing, Poluk is also the lead vocalist for the SF-based rocksteady and early reggae outfit Tectionics

Ruffy Rangel AKA Ruffy TNT is an international record digger and selector specializing in vintage, global sounds spanning Jamaican oldies, early reggae, rocksteady, and ska, as well as rare Latin grooves. Co-owner of Discodelic, Discos Viajantes in San Francisco's Mission District, and the founder of Mexico City's Reggae Hit The Town Festival.
